Using CBD for stress (and a vegan CBD chocolate recipe!)

As a health fanatic, I am all about being up to date with the latest and greatest wellness trends, so when CBD (cannabidiol ) popped up a few years ago, I knew it was something I had to try. I have dabbled with different CBD products, but not consistently.

Why didn’t I seem to stick with CBD? One big reason was the stigma surrounding CBD oil, I mean it comes from cannabis! However, CBD oil is completely non-psychoactive. You can read more about CBD vs THC here. Once I educated myself on CBD and the importance of buying quality products, I knew it was something I needed to try.

This past year I was introduced to ICARIA, a CBD company that was created for women by women, with the focus of promoting balance and overall optimal health. The products are organically grown and third-party tested, plus the packaging is super chic!

My experience with CBD

I am not a stranger to anxiety– its ebbed and flowed in my life since I was a kid. I coincidentally received my first bottle at the perfect time, a few months into a global pandemic with a variety of other personal stressors that were stoking the anxiety fire.

Feeling overwhelmed and disconnected, I decided to really give CBD a try. I started by initially taking it during moments of heightened anxiety. Immediately, I felt relief. Then I started taking it every day, trying to be more consistent. Now its been about three months with CBD in my daily wellness routine and here’s what I have noticed: more focus and an over all sense of “zen,” never sleepy (even though it has been a great way to chill me out before bed!). We could all use a little more zen, right?! I truly believe that along with my other anxiety reducing tools(yoga, mindfulness, breathwork, healthy foods), CBD has been a great addition that I will continue to incorporate.

CBD Vegan Chocolate – the perfect chill treat

I usually just take a dropper full on CBD each day, but sometimes its more fun to add it to your smoothies, teas, and treats! I decided to make homemade, healthy vegan chocolate, with the added benefits of CBD!

Vegan CBD Chocolate

Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 20 mins
Total Time 30 mins

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup cacao butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 dropper ICARIA CBD oil 1500 mg bottle, 1 dropper = 50 mg
  • 1/3 cup cacao

Instructions
 

  • Use microwave or double boiler to melt cacao butter
  • Once melted, remove from the heat and mix in syrup, vanilla, and CBD
  • Add cacao and mix until completely smooth
  • Transfer to silicone molds ( I filled it up ~1/4 of the way )
  • Place in the refrigerator until solid (at least 15-20 minutes)
My favorite way to enjoy– with peanut butter!
